The formative years of my career have been spent in the broking industry, formerly in the Gilt Market where I gained broad based experience of running a business that has remained the consistent market leader in the field. I have been exposed to futures markets, system design, implementation and deployment, adapting to changes in market structure and regulations, including the advent of mandatory quote provision and subsequent system development to facilitate the requirement. In common with any broking business I have built and maintained long term relationships with the majority of market participants including the regulators.
Having achieved what I set out to in the broking sphere and frankly looking to re-invent myself, I was given responsibility to run ICAP’s fledgling European Electronic Broking Business (ETC) prior to the purchase and integration of Brokertec. Subsequently I have had responsibility for managing the i-Swap and i-Forwards hybrid voice/electronic initiatives in Interest Rate Derivatives and Short Date Forward Foreign Exchange, along with ICAP’s overall STP service provision across all asset classes. The role involved a high degree of client contact.
In addition to forming the strategic electronic template in conjunction with heads of the voice businesses, I acted as the “bridge” between the voice and electronic businesses to define and implement strategy to differentiate service provision. Facets of the role include managing external development relationships with technology providers, marketing ICAP’s electronic initiatives to banks including structuring liquidity provision agreements, and growing ICAP’s overall electronic trading volumes and footprint in Europe.
